Who is this Course for?
This 3 hour course is essential for anyone who has access to a workplace Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
National statistics show that if a trained first aider performs CPR on a non-breathing casualty and administers an AED within a brief period then there is a better chance of survival than merely phoning for an ambulance. This has caused many sports centres, companies and villages to purchase an automatic external defibrillator. The AED will administer an electric shock across the heart of a casualty if the device considers it appropriate, and this can cause the heart to resume a heartbeat.
There are 4 parts to the course: A) The primary survey of an unconscious casualty. B) How to give cardio pulmonary resuscitation. C) an understanding of how the AED operates. D) How and why to place a casualty who is breathing and unconscious in the recovery position.
The course is practical and a tutor will use a training AED. Each participant will be given the opportunity to use it on a Resusciannie mannequin. There is also theoretical instruction and participants are able to ask any questions. The course will give the first aider the confidence to use an AED in a stressful emergency.
